  • #OpenInventor Virtual Reality (VR) HMD demos at SEG 2017

This year at the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) 2017 Annual Meeting (September 24 - 27, in Houston, Texas), the Open Inventor booth (#120 - Thermo Fisher Scientific) will feature a seismic data Virtual Reality (VR) demo using the Oculus Rift head mounted display (HMD) and the Dell 7720 Precision laptop.

You can also try this demo in three other booths on the show floor! (Ask us for details.)

Open Inventor support for Virtual Reality (VR) now includes the popular HTC Vive and Oculus Rift Head Mounted Displays (HMD). Any Open Inventor scene graph can be displayed in VR and existing applications can easily be modified to support VR rendering and interac tion. Beginning with Open Inventor releases 9.7.2 and 9.8.0, you will find a basic example program and some VR helper classes in the examples directory. The helper classes use head tracking to update the camera, render the Open Inventor scene graph in left and right eye views, and transfer the rendered images to the VR device. They also convert controller events (like button press) and controller position tracking to the standard Open Inventor VR event classes (for example SoTrackerEvent).
